Bonifacio Execution

On May 10, 1897, Andres Bonifacio, the father of the Philippine Revolution and the founder of the Katipunan, was executed in Maragondon. Katipunan is the secret society that aims to overthrow Spain in a revolt.

Andres was sentenced to die in a farcical trial organized by a rival, Emilio Aguinaldo, after he and his brother was captured in a battle. His other brother was shot to death during the attack, while his wife, Gregoria, was raped by Aguinaldo's henchman.

Above is the Katipunan Monument in Manila, which commemorates the secret society and its struggles against Spain. Today, Bonifacio is honored as a national hero, alongside Jose Rizal, and considered as the first Philippine president by many historians.
